Jetwing Lagoon a serene oasis in Negombo

31 March, 2019

Negombo is one of the stellar destinations for tourists. Her pristine beaches, succulent seafood and ancient churches enrich its tourism potential. Having begun their grand entry into the hospitality industry decades ago, Jetwing Hotels have come on a long and successful journey from this town.

Jetwing Lagoon designed by the late architect Geoffrey Bawa is a unique hotel - because of its design and aura of privacy set against the backdrop of the lagoon. As you enter, the high wooden ceiling captivates you. From the point of the reception one can gaze past the 100 metre pool with its turquoise water, to the serene lagoon.

The property has been thoughtfully planned to coexist with her natural environment. Large trees accentuate the vast gardens, which also include a massive pond full of fish. In addition, the hotel has its own spice and herbal gardens.

General Manager Ajantha Perera explained, ‘We have 55 rooms at Jetwing Lagoon. Each spacious room has a unique view of the lagoon, some with private balconies. The rooms are categorized as Deluxe Suites and the opulent Bawa Suite’. The rooms are comfortable and embellished with the world famous designs of the legendary Geoffrey Bawa who understood the importance of incorporating natural elements into his design. Another unique feature at the hotel is the 100 metre swimming pool. Spa treatments are also available to rejuvenate body and mind under the supervision of Dr. Vimarsha Kodithuwakku. For those guests who want total ayurveda treatments the hotel has a special ayurveda menu that supplements the treatment. The Blue Lagoon restaurant gives you the opportunity to wine and dine gazing into the calm waters of the lagoon.

Negombo is the culinary hotspot for seafood and Chef Leon de Abrew serves a stunning buffet. His signature dish is the steamed lemongrass crab. The hotel also offers a BBQ on Saturday nights. Another emerging feature that has enticed guests is the large garden overlooking the lagoon - which is becoming a happening venue for garden weddings. Unlike beach weddings, garden weddings offer a lush ambience for guests. The garden is laid out in two tiers and can accommodate 600 guests.

For those who want to indulge in a bit of adventure the hotel offers boat rides and pulsating individual Jet Ski rides. For nature lovers this property is home to 32 species of migrant birds who find solace among the mangroves that cluster around the lagoon. Jetwing Lagoon is the perfect getaway where you can truly unwind and rediscover the natural beauty of the lagoon.
