The annual big match cricket encounter between Leeds Southern and Leeds Western will be played on April 2 at the Galle International Cricket Stadium. Former Sri Lanka cricketer and coach of the under-19 team at present, Upul Chandana is scheduled to grace the occasion as the chief guest while Galle mayor Priyantha Sahabandu and deputy mayor Fawuz Niyas are among the other distinguished invitees.
Leeds Southern team comprises players from both Leeds International School Galle and Matara branches while Leeds Western is composed of players from Leeds International School Panadura branch.
The maiden big match was played in 2018 at the Bandaragama ground where Leeds Western emerged winners. This concept of playing a big match among branches was introduced by the Chairman of Leeds Network of Schools and Campus of Business and Technology Sarath Jayatissa with the intention of providing maximum opportunities for the students of the network to take part in sporting activities and strengthen the mutual relationship among branches.
