Trinity the lone warrior in second round rugby

Trinity College is the only Kandy school who have qualified to play in the Cup competition in the second round of the Singer inter-school League rugby championship.

They will play their first second round game on April 27 against St. Peter’s College at Bambalapitiya, on May 3 against Wesley College at Longden Place, on May 11 against Royal College at Pallekele which will be the first leg of the Bradby and on May 17 against S. Thomas’ College at Mount Lavania for the Canon R.S. De Saram trophy.

Trinity College last won the League in 1987 and entered this year’s competition with intentions of giving a good display.

In their group they were placed third with three wins and two losses in five games.

Kingswood College were placed fifth in their group with two wins and three losses in five games and could not qualify for the Cup segment.

They will play in the Plate segment along with St. Anthony’s College who also finished fifth in their group with one win and four losses in five games.

Vidyartha College ended number one and Dharmaraja College number two in their group in the B championship.

In the same group St. Sylvester’s College were fourth with two wins and three loses in five games.

Sri Sumangala ended second with four wins and a loss in five games in their group while Sri Rahula College in their group won three and lost two.

These schools will scrum down for the Plate and Bowl.
