The Bank of Ceylon’s Buddhist Association together with BOC staff organised a series of religious programs commemorating the Buddha’s birth, enlightenment and parinirvana on Vesak Poya day.

Among them was Bhakthi Gee at the bank’s head office and Sil observation on Vesak Poya day.

The staff of the Bank and their families participated in the annual ‘Vesak Sil’ program organised by the Bank’s Buddhist Association for the 55th time to observe Sil. Within the Sil program there were many sessions of dharmanushasana (Buddhist preaching) given by well renowned dharma preachers who gave insights on what Lord Buddha taught.

The program started at 6 a.m. by Ven. Derangala Dhamma Vissuddhi Thera by initiating the observation of ‘Ata-sil’ (the eight precepts) followed by offering ‘Buddha Pooja’. A number of Dharmadesanas (Dhamma sermons) were delivered during the program which finally ended around 6 p.m. Morning and noon ‘Dana’ was provided by the Bank’s Buddhist Association.

Buddhist literature and transcriptions of important inscriptions were also handed to all participants by the Bank’s Buddhist Association. This was the 55th annual Vesak Sil Program conducted.

It is observed that this program benefits many staff members and their families in many different ways and it has become one of the most awaited religious events for all of BOC staff, irrespective of their religious beliefs.

This year over five hundred participated to the Sil program.
