To mark World Environment Day, the Wana Arana Foundation and Fly Adds Pvt Ltd have launched a project to collect plastic waste in and around the beaches of Sri Lanka.

The first stage of this project was launched with the Municipal Council of Dehiwela-Mt. Lavinia at the Mt. Lavinia beach last week.

The two organisations plan to implement this project in beaches of Arugam Bay, Polhena, Hikkaduwa, Negombo, Trincomalee, Matara, Tangalle and any other congested area in the country where waste that is not biodegradable is likely to collect . The project is named Meka Ape Rata Apima Hada Ganimu - ‘This is our country, let us make it a better place ourselves’.
