Sri Lanka brought in former skipper Dinesh Chandimal to a 15-member squad for the first Test against New Zealand, ending a six-month omission the wicket-keeper batsman.

He last played a Test against Australia and missed the South African tour where Sri Lanka won a Test series 2-0.

But many felt Chandimal received a raw deal when he was left out from the World Cup.

He was playing in a T20 tournament in Canada when he received the news of his recall.

Sri Lanka also recalled Akila Dhananjaya who had been suspended from international cricket over a suspect bowling action.

Sri Lanka squad: Dimuth Karunaratne (captain), Angelo Mathews, Dinesh Chandimal, Lahiru Thirimanne, Kusal Mendis, Kusal Perera, Niroshan Dikwella, Dhananjaya de Silva, Akila Dhananjaya, Lasith Embuldeniya, Suranga Lakmal, Lahiru Kumara, Oshada Fernando, Lakshan Sandakan, Vishwa Fernando.
