11 August, 2019

Prize money of Rs. 500,000 will be offered at the SSC All Island Open Badminton Championships which is scheduled to be held from September 13 at the SSC Badminton Complex and Mercantile Badminton Association Indoor courts Colombo.

According to the Secretary of the SSC Badminton, Gamini Jayasuriya, this tournament once again paves the way for players to build up their talents and a keen tussle is expected in all events.

A record number of over 1500 players are expected to contest the event which is probably the biggest and most popular event in the Sri Lanka’s badminton calendar according to the organisers.

The men’s and women’s Open singles and doubles, mixed doubles boys and girls under-19, 17 and 15 singles and doubles and under-13 boys and girls are some of the major events lined up.

Men’s and women’s veterans’ over-40 singles and doubles, over-50, 55, 60, 65, and 70 singles and doubles are also part of this nine day tournament.

Organizers are also looking into the prospects of conducting family mixed doubles for husband and wife, father and daughter or mother and son. However in this group participants should not be in the current senior national ranking list or ex national players or current national players. Rantushka Sasindu and Dilmi Dias won last year’s men’s and women’s Open singles.

Entry forms are available on the SLB website (www.srilankabadminton.lk) and at the SSC office at Maitland Place.

Entries will be accepted at the SSC office until 12 noon on August 24.
