Batiks, beautiful batiks!

A fashion show with batik, Beauty beyond Batik hosted by Eric Suriyasena Batiks, Marawila was held at Suriya Resort, Waikkal, amid a large gathering of well-wishers.

The event marked a special milestone where it celebrated 55 years in the batik industry for the creator of Eric Suriyasena Batiks and also 50 years of his commitment to the Tourism Industry in Sri Lanka.

Eric Suriyasena is recognised as a pioneer and premier exponent of batik and is venerated for his contribution to this creative means of pictorial expression. He has been recognised by the state for his contributions to the Arts and Crafts Industry in Sri Lanka.

His success in the batik industry and also his close liaison with foreign buyers and friends made him diversify and invest in hotels, which saw the creation of Sun Flower Beach Hotel which was later rebranded as Goldie Sands Hotel. This hotel then expanded to be one of the largest star class hotels in Negombo.

In a bid to give back to the community, Suriyasena founded the Heart to Heart Trust Fund to help create awareness programs for prevention of cardiac arrests and also to raise funds to support heart surgeries. He also built a special ward in the Chilaw Hospital and equipped it with modern medical equipment for cancer patients.

Beauty beyond Batik went the extra mile to collect donations for these two magnanimous CSR projects launched by Suriyasena.
