Past presidents of Mercantile Badminton Association honoured with plaque

A plaque to commemorate the past presidents of Mercantile Badminton Association (MBA) was unveiled by the Mercantile Badminton Trust at the Mercantile Badminton headquarters and GT Jayasuriya Stadium on Thursday (22).

This was the first time that this type of commemorative ceremony was organised by the Mercantile Badminton Trust headed by Gamini Jayasuriya.

Past presidents Gamini Jayasuriya, who was the president from 1997 to 2007, Jayantha Kudahetty from 1992 to 1994, Ajith Wijayasinghe 2008 and 2009, Eraj Wijesinghe 1985 to 1987, Sumith Guruge 2011 and 2012, Nirodha de Costa 2012, 2013, 2015, Shaun Shiek 2014 and incumbent president Roshan Fernando were present on the occasion.

The Mercantile Badminton complex has five courts, viewing terraces with large parking space, changing rooms office and other modern facilities.

The Trust chairman Gamini Jayasuriya said the total cost of the project was estimated at Rs. 20 million.
