Removal of posters, cutouts cost the Govt Rs 60 M

17 November, 2019

The Government has spent Rs. 60 million to remove posters and cutouts displayed by presidential candidates and their parties, Police Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekara said.

He said that the politicians and their supporters were eager to put up the posters and cutouts, but they failed to remove them, causing the country to undertake the financial burden.

Thirty-five candidates contested at yesterday’s Presidential elections, one of the costliest elections recorded in the country.

The Centre for Monitoring Election Violence (CMEV) said the main candidates have spent over Rs. 3,000 million on their campaigns.
