Kandy SC produced another power packed and speedy brand of rugby to overpower Police SC by 34 points to 13 in a Dialog Rugby League encounter played at Police Park yesterday.

They used their forceful pack and speedy three-quarters to scored five tries, three conversions and a penalty compared to two tries and a penalty by Police SC who threatened to go places in the League when the demolished favourite team Havelocks and Navy SC in two previous games.

Kandy’s forwards did the basics to near perfection and had control of possession and offered a tight defence when Police were on the offensive.

Kandy opened scoring in the third minute when they forced a line out and on winning saw Lasitha Attanagoda go over the line.

Tharinda Ratwatte put over the conversion to take full points.

Police SC replied when they were given a penalty in the 14th minute for collapsing a scrum and Yohan Peiris kicked right.

Kandy SC were also offered a penalty in the 21st minute and Ratwatte kicked right to take a 10-3 lead.

Kandy SC were not to be kept under control and after making some advances into Police territory they opened up the game and centre Lavanga Perera found an open space in front of him to go through for a try.

Ratwatte once again kicked right to make it 17-3 which was the score at half time. But before that two Kandy players were shown the yellow card, Buddima Piyaratne and Srinath Sooriyabandara for unwarranted play. Police SC then mounted the pressure on Kandy SC but failed to add any points.

Police SC scored in the seventh minute after the turn around when they won a line out and on working the rolling maul Suranga Kasun went over with the ball.

Yohan Peiris failed to convert this try.

Thereafter Kandy SC scored two quick tries through centre Diluksha Dange who went over on both occasions. Ratwatte failed to add the extra points to these two tries.

Police SC scored another try when on working their three quarters a kick ahead saw Lahiru Pavithra charge and fall on the loose ball. The conversion was missed from an angle.

Kandy SC finished off with their fifth try when another rolling maul saw Buddima Piyaratne falling over.

Ratwatte converted and Kandy SC finished off on a high again and an encouraging morale booster for the rest of the season.

Isuru Perera refereed.
