Apartment fire in Azebaijan kills three university students : Lankan Tehran mission to repatriate bodies

The Sri Lankan mission in Tehran is coordinating with the Azebaijan authorities to repatriate the bodies of the three Sri Lakan university students who have died in a fire at their apartment on Thursday.

The three students studying at Western Caspian University in Baku have died due to suffocation from smoke inhalation, the Foreign Relations Ministry spokesperson Ruwanthi Delpitiya confirmed yesterday.

The Azerbaijan authorities have initiated an investigation into the incident.

The Sri Lankan mission in Tehran and the Azerbaijan Mission in New Delhi are coordinating with the Foreign Ministry to facilitate the repatriation of the remains and the Foreign Ministry is in touch with their families, she said. The three girls have been identified as Malsha, Tarushi and Amodya aged 20,22 and 24 years. Malsha and Tarushi are sisters.
