Beruwala residents commemorated the 72nd Independence Day in a grand manner with ceremonies at various places. A formal flag hoisting ceremony along with prayers was held at the Jamiyathul Fassiyathusha Shazuliyya, China Fort, Beruwala under the patronage of Principal Moulavi M.S.M Rasik (Muaidi). The Beruwala Praja Development Society, the Police – Praja Unit, and the Urban Council Beruwala also held a ceremony under the patronage of Mazahim Mohammed, Chairman, Urban Council, Beruwala with the participation of Ven. Pinnawala Sanga Sumana Thero, Senior Lecturer, Sri Jayewardenepura University, KaleefathushShazuli Moulavi M.M. Zainul Aabdeen (Bahji) and Moulavi M.S.M Fasil (Ashrafi) Katheebs, Fassiya Jumma Mosque Beruwala. A tree planting ceremony was also held on the beach, jointly organised by the local authority, Police and religious dignitaries.
