Sri Lanka Embassy in Beijing commemorates 72nd Anniversary of Independence

The 72nd Anniversary of the Independence of Sri Lanka was commemorated at the Sri Lankan Embassy in Beijing on February 4, 2020 with the participation of the Embassy staff. The ceremony was conducted on a small scale due to the prevailing coronavirus outbreak in China.

It commenced with the hoisting of the National Flag by Charge d’ Affaires K. K. Yoganaadan of the Sri Lanka Embassy in People’s Republic of China followed by the singing of the National Anthem, and observing two minutes silence in honour of the national heroes of Sri Lanka.

Yoganaadan, said, Sri Lanka would not have been able to achieve today’s prosperity without the determination and sacrifices made by the national heroes to safeguard the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country. He said it is the duty of all Sri Lankans to work towards the development of the country, and expressed the country’s solidarity with China at this challenging hour.

The ceremony concluded with offering Sri Lankan traditional refreshments of Kiribath, and Kokis to the participants.
