The 57th Battle of Brothers big match cricket encounter between Thurstan College and Isipathana College ended in a tame draw at the SSC ground yesterday. With this draw Thurstan retained the Blakham Wijewardena Trophy.

Resuming their first innings on 131 for five, Thurstan went on to score 284 for nine wickets at the end of the 60th over as Pawantha Jayasinghe batted well to top score with 137 that included two sixes and 12 boundaries.

He wrote the history books by following in his father Chaminda Jayasinghe’s footsteps of scoring centuries in the big match.

Batting in their second innings with a deficit of 74 runs Isipathana’s batsmen were intent on drawing the game as Ravindu Ratnayake batted patiently to score 87 runs.

Pawantha Jayasinghe took major honours by being adjudged as the best bowler, best batsman, best striker, best all rounder and man of the match. He also received two cash prizes and a motor cycle.

Isipathana skipper Leshan Amarasinghe received the best fielder’s award.
