Sri Lanka miss out on Asian squash, fencing

8 March, 2020

The Asian Team Squash Championship to be held in Malaysia has been postponed in the aftermath of the coronavirus outbreak, the Squash Federation’s tournament head Wing Commander DE Geeganage told the Sunday observer.

Meanwhile the South Asia Fencing tournament to be hosted by India in March is also doubtful for the same reason as Pakistan and Nepal have shown no interest to contest the championship.

“We are ready to participate with 24 players who would go to India and compete in this tournament.

“We need experience. So we think joining with India to compete will gives us that experience. But with only India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka showing interest the South Asian Fencing Tournament becomes doubtful at this moment,” said Ajith Siyabalapitiya the president of the Fencing Federation of Sri Lanka.

The Sri Lanka team was selected based on the National competition results comprising 12 men and 12 women.
