Sri Lanka Netball Federation president Victoria Lakshmi said the resignation letter of coach Thilaka Jinadasa has been accepted while noting that her contract was to expire in June.

Jinadasa resigned last week in a shock decision to quit.

“We never expected this unexpected situation (coronavirus) all over the world. I saw her explanations given in the media but very disappointed about her criticism of the Federation at this moment.

“I have to say she is a very talented coach for the country and did a good job to develop the national team.

“When she joined as the national head coach I was the vice president of the Federation. Then I was appointed the president and up to now I have done my best to promote the sport. “However we had a good agreement about the coaching. I also took action to appoint an assistant coach to Thilaka and also promised to arrange international tours to get international exposure before the Asian Championships.

“We already planned to obtain visa and air tickets for the tours and Thilaka agreed to all before the Asian Championships,” said Lakshmi.

Lakshmi said she had to personally find the sponsors and especially the Sport Minister and Ministry senior officials gave them good support to do everything. “We had a good understanding but this unexpected worldwide situation changed everything,” she said.

According to Lakshmi a new coach will be appointed after the current situation improves.
