Gold-medal winning swimmer Julian Bolling and former cricket World Cup champion Roshan Mahanama will grace a life-saving awareness event conducted at the Kinross Swimming Club in Wellawatte today at 8 am organized by the My Friend Foundation in association with the Sri Lanka Life Saving Association and Rainbow Swimming Club.
Although Sri Lanka is an island nation most people cannot swim which is the main cause for an increase in the number of deaths by drowning.
According to statistics, three people die by drowning in the country daily and the Life Saving Association and their affiliated clubs have been trying to educate the people on the importance of learning to swim.
They have been conducting life saving events occasionally island-wide and will continue the campaign on a proposal made by Fouzul Hameed the Managing Director of Hameedia to the My Friend Foundation.
