The quarter finals of the Vantage FFSL President’s Cup football tournament get underway from today with table leaders Java Lane SC taking on Defenders SC from Group ‘C’ at the Sugathadasa stadium at 4.00 p.m.
The second game will be between Group ‘E’ leaders Blue Eagles SC who clash with New Star SC the Group ‘B’ leaders.
Blue Eagles was the only team to win all their three games in the first round to gain a tally of nine points to qualify for the quarters. In this group Colombo Football Club which recorded two wins and a loss had six points to be placed behind Blue Eagles and made their way to the quarters on a higher point aggregate.
Tomorrow Colombo FC is billed to take on Police SC the Group D leaders at 4 pm while the following game will be between Red Star SC and Serendib SC the runners up in Group D at the same venue at 7 pm.
The Championship is considered the first Semi Professional Tourney played in Sri Lanka and all players did well to come out with their best soccer throughout the championship showing their keenness without even their fans to support them.
