Officers of the Army Intelligence Unit and the Kalpitiya Naval Base arrested four individuals with 261 kilos of Tumeric smuggled from India by sea.
The raid was carried out on a tip off received by the Army Intelligence Unit that turmeric and cardamom were being smuggled across the sea. This is the second arrest within the last two weeks. The Kalpitiya police confiscated a consignment of turmeric worth nearly Rs.7 million which was also smuggled to Sri Lanka from India by boat.
