Met. Dept. warning: Rough Sea, Strong Wind

The Meteorology Department has issued a warning of strong wind and rough seas to several provinces, which is valid until 9am September 11.
 
According to the warning issued, “Wind speed can increase up to (60-70) kmph in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Kankasanturai via Mannar. Wind speed can increase up to (60-65) kmph in the sea areas extending from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambanthota. These sea areas can be rough to very rough at times. The other sea areas can be fairly rough at times as the wind speed can increase up to(50-55) kmph. There is a possibility that near shore sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle, may experience the effect of swell waves, having 2.5 –3.0 m height.”

The Department requests the Naval and fishing communities to be vigilant in this regard.
