Thilina Wijesinghe, one of the biggest names in the champion Kandy Sports Club rugby team has been banned for four years by the Sri Lanka Anti Doping Agency (SLADA) after he was tested positive for taking banned substances.

He was tested in August 2019 a year in which Kandy SC had a highly successful rugby season.

Six months later in February 2020 Wijesinghe was found guilty of doping and according to the rules and punishment meted out by the World Anti Doping Agency (WADA), the Sri Lanka Anti Doping Agency was compelled to ban him for four years from August 21, 2019 to August 20, 2023.

He is not only banned from playing but shut out from all activities connected with Sri Lanka, club and school rugby.

The former Dharmaraja and Sri Lanka full back has the right to appeal his ban which is unlikely to be lifted in view of the seriousness of his offence which WADA and World Rugby have sworn to eradicate.

The new inter club rugby season is expected to start next month with the Sevens tournament.
