Health Services Deputy Director Dr. Hemantha Herath called upon people to stay at home this festive season and go out to purchase only essentials at the nearest shops, to prevent the spread of Covid-19. He said if people do not limit their movements, strict rules and regulations would be implemented to prevent them gathering in crowded shopping areas and other similar places.
People should cooperate with the health authorities to control Covid-19, he said. Even when going out to buy essentials at the nearest shops, people should wear face masks, keep a one-and-a-half metre distance or more from one another and wash hands with soap and water. A hand sanitiser should be used when soap and water is not available. Institutions should also follow all health guidelines, he said.
