Sri Lanka is to recall middle order batsman Roshen Silva and take a look at another young uncapped player Ramesh Mendis for this month’s home two-Test series against England.

Silva last played a Test against Australia in Brisbane in January 2019 and was also sidelined with injury. He has an average of 35.10 from 12 Test matches with a highest score of 109 and has been recalled following several injuries to players currently taking part in the Test series against South Africa.

They include two batsmen, Dinesh Chandimal and Dhananjaya de Silva. The 25-year old Mendis has played in 42 First Class matches scoring 2,190 runs with four tons and ten half centuries with a highest individual score being an unbeaten 300.

He is also capable of bowling off spinners and has claimed 73 wickets in the same format including a five-wicket haul. He could challenge the ageing all rounder Dilruwn Perera.

The first Test against England starts on January 14 followed by the second and final match starting on January 22. Both matches will be at the Galle International Cricket Stadium.
