Billie Eilish responds to green hair criticism

3 January, 2021

Billie Eilish is ready for a big change. The “Therefore I Am” singer is preparing to say goodbye to her iconic neon green hair — but not before clapping back at fans who have seemingly grown tired of the look.

In a new Instagram story posted early Tuesday morning, Billie chastised her followers and jokingly threatened to withhold her new music. “Stop making fun of me, my god, I’m making you an album,” she said. “I will not put it out if you keep making fun of my hair!”

As BuzzFeed News reported, Billie’s fans have been requesting a hair change for a while — but the singer responded to a couple comments, pointing out that her consistent green color has actually been a sign of improving mental health. “This is the longest i’ve had the same hair color since i was 13 & that’s on mental stability and growth leave me alone,” she wrote in one comment. In another response, she said, “it’s called not being depressed anymore pls just be happy for me.”

Billie’s hair colour — and how long she chooses to rock it — is 100% up to her, and hopefully moving forward, fans can be supportive of her choices and the fact that she’s prioritizing her mental health.

That said, it sounds like Billie has made a decision to update her look — but not quite yet. In her Instagram story, she told fans a hair change will come after the release of her upcoming Apple TV+ documentary, The World’s A Little Blurry, which premieres on February 26. We have some time to get ready, but whenever the green does go, “it will be the end of an era,” Billie said in her story. “I’m gonna give you a new era. I have announcements to make, I got some sh*t to put out.”

While we wait for the new music and the new locks, we’ll just have to keep ourselves busy playing “Therefore I Am” and “my future” on repeat. And for anyone who has an urge to get after Billie for her hair again in the meantime, she had one final message to share: “Leave me alone. Let me live with my f*cking hair that I’ve had for way too long.”
