Kandy SC pull-out hurts fans

14 February, 2021

Kandy rugby lovers have expressed disappointment that their favourite team Kandy SC have decided not to contest the Commander’s Cup the inter club Sevens next month undermining 28 years of dominance.

Kandy SC is the only team that has beaten every other club more times than losing to them and holds the record of winning the league and the knockouts more than any other rival team in the fray. Fortunately for Kandy Sports Club, its sponsors and well-wishers with the sprit has delivered all facilities at all times, giving their best for players, with the encouragement to perform at the highest levels.

Their players talk less and work hard to bring the club up to top standard and all this happened after Malik Samarawickrema came into the scene in the early 1990s. Besides all that players are disciplined, committed, focused and have become very professional.

The turning point for Kandy SC was when they won the Clifford Cup final in 1992 and in the same year they were placed third in the League tournament and were runners-up in the R. Premadasa Trophy knockout tournament.

Kandy Sports Club has a long history, founded in 1874 and was then known as the Kandy Athletic, Boating, Cricket and Dancing Club.
