Face veil to be banned

A proposal has been submitted to the Cabinet to ban face veil and amend the law pertaining to the Muslim Marriage in Sri Lanka, stated Minister of Justice Ali Sabry.

Minister Sabry said the face veil or burqa will not be allowed in public places for security reasons.  

Minister further said the proposed amendments to the Muslim Marriage law has begun to increase the minimum age of marriage to 18, allow the bride to sign the marriage document and equal rights for women in marriage.

Also, Minster Ali Sabry emphasized that he will not permit changes in law pertaining to Buddhism.
