‘iCarly’ reboot renewed for season 2

25 July, 2021

According to ’The Hollywood Reporter’, Paramount+ has renewed the series for a second season, an announcement that came just a month after the reboot’s Season 1 premiere in June.

The latest iteration of iCarly picks up 10 years after the original show left off, following main character Carly Shay (Miranda Cosgrove) as an adult. Since its June 17 premiere, the show has been a huge hit, according to Variety.

In the new version of the show, fans can follow along as Carly makes a go at being an influencer in today’s social media landscape. While fan favorites like Nathan Kress and Jerry Trainor returned to the show in their roles as Freddie and Spencer, the show also features newcomers Laci Mosley and Jaidyn Triplett. Laci plays Harper, Carly’s new friend and roommate, while Jaidyn portrays Millicent, Freddie’s adopted stepdaughter.

Missing from the cast is Jennette McCurdy, who played Sam in the original series. Jennette announced in March she wouldn’t be joining the reboot, saying she had retired from acting and expressing embarrassment about her past roles.

“I’m so ashamed of the parts I’ve done in the past. I resent my career in a lot of ways,” she said. “I feel so unfulfilled by the roles that I played and felt like it was the most cheesy, embarrassing. I did the shows that I was on from like 13 to 21, and by 15, I was already embarrassed.”

The new show explained Sam’s absence by saying she’d run off with a biker gang (of course!).

As viewers are set to gain more of the reboot, fans of the original might be in for some disappointment. According to Entertainment Weekly, the original series will be leaving Netflix soon. It seems like it will find a new home on Paramount+, though, so that will be a one-stop-shop for all your iCarly needs.
