The Batticaloa Municipality has declared one month as a month of light in its 20 wards. The inauguration ceremony to fit LED lights at junctions was held at Pansala Road close to the Batticaloa Municipal Market recently. The aim of the project is to give brighter lights with less electricity consumption, discourage throwing garbage at the junction on streets, prevent anti-social behaviour under cover of darkness, and make it more comfortable for pedestrians at night
