Full house for match-making rugby

A full house one-day rugby championship called the ‘C Rugby Tag Rugby Tournament that brings out ex-school players to play alongside women’s players will kick off at the CR and FC ground at Longdon Place on November 12 (Saturday) commencing at 2 pm.

In the tournament 16 combined teams will contest featuring past students from what the organizers say are ‘brother-sister schools’.

The teams will be Royal College/Visakha Vidyalaya, Isipathana College/St. Paul’s, St. Joseph’s College/St. Bridget’s Convent, Kingswood College/Girls’ High School, Wesley College/Methodist College, DS Senanayake College/Sirimavo Vidyalaya, Ananda College/Musaeus College, Trinity College/Hillwood College and Ladies College, S. Thomas’ College/Bishop’s College, St. Anthony’s College/Good Shepherd Convent, Kandy, St. Sylvester’s College/St. Anthony’s Girls’ School, Dharmaraja College/Mahamaya College, St. Benedict’s College/Good Shepherd Convent and Vidyartha College/Pushpadana Girls’ School.

The occasion will also take in a carnival-like atmosphere that includes a children’s playing area and live music according to the orgnisers.

Tournament Organiser the former Sri Lanka rugby fly-half and referee Dilroy Fernando said the tournament will be an action packed event that reunites old friends from schools with some 44 matches down to be worked off.

The teams will contest for the Cup, Bowl and Plate.

Each team will be allowed two players of over-25, three players above 35 years and two female players from what is being called the “sister school” of the boys team.

The tournament is organized by AGOAL International whose Director and CEO is Dilroy Fernando who also said the occasion promises to be an unforgettable experience packed with solid entertainment and fun for the whole family.

The tournament was launched on Tuesday, November 1 at the Cinnamon Grand and graced by Gowshik Sathiyasiva (Head of Marketing & Communications Pick Me), Randil Boteju (Senior Vice President Sales and Digital Banking Fri Mi), Kasun Gunarathne (Head of Marketing Elephant House Ice Cream), Dilroy Fernando (Tournament Organiser and Director-CEO AGOAL International), Ruchira Galappatthy (Manager - Key Accounts and Beverage Partner Elephant House), Indika Amarasuriya (DGM, Mobitel), Ranga Perera (Head of Daraz Advertising Solutions) and Jermaine Ferdinandus (Associate Trade Marketing Manager South Asia, BIC)

The tournament is being organized by AGOAL International for the sixth time and Science College were the champions the last time it was held in 2019.
