Kandy SC gearing up for new season

Defending league rugby champions Kandy Sports Club are working tirelessly to ensure that the team is well prepared for the new inter club season which starts next month.

Kandy SC is said to be providing an excellent environment for the players to continue from where they left last season.

This is the club with the most number of wins playing as the most successful club winning 22 league titles in the last 28 years covering the period between 1994 to 2022. They also hold the record for the highest number of wins since the expanded competition commenced in 1950.

Kandy SC is a club with a long and proud history. For this club it took 42 years to win a trophy that showed the perseverance.

In the upcoming season, players are sure to give an impressive performance with the guidance of Rugby Committee chairman Lasantha Wijesuriya and the coaching team headed by Fazil Marija and assistant coach Buddhika Thalagampola.

Damith Dissanayake is the captain and they have a good set of knowledgeable players attending practices. According to the fixtures Kandy SC are expected to play their first game against Army SC on Saturday December 10 at Nittawela followed by matches against CR & FC (17th at Longden Place), Air Force SC (31st at Nittawella), Navy SC (January 8 at Nittawela), Police SC (14th at Police Park), CH and FC (21st at Race Course) and Havelock SC (28th at Havelock Park).
