Circular on public servants’ convenient dress cancelled

4 December, 2022

The circular issued by the Ministry of Public Administration permitting public servants to wear a convenient dress to their workplaces for official duties has been cancelled with immediate effect.

Secretary to the Ministry of Public Administration M.M.P.K. Mayadunne had issued circulars on June 26, 2019 and September 27, 2022 on the official attire of public servants. The circular issued on February 1, 1989 with regard to public servants of Staff Grades remains unchanged.

Mayadunne said that the two circulars were not relevant to Government school female teachers and hence, all female public servants should report to Government offices for duty wearing saris or osariyas (traditional dresses) as in the past.

Many school teachers are now being exploited by anti-government trade unions to cripple the education of students to achieve their selfish political targets.
