Asian Schools Chess in Kalutara
The Asian Schools Chess Championship organized by Chess Federation of Sri Lanka will be held from December 4 to10 at Citrus Hotel, Waskaduwa, Kalutara,
The event will be held for boys and girls Under -7, 9,11,13,15 and 17.
Chess players from India, Pakistan, Iran, Bangladesh, Kazakhstan, Maldives, Turkmenistan, Mongolia and Uzbekistan have confirmed their participation.
A Sri Lanka contingent of 200 players will be seen at this Championship.
Aussies close in on Test win
West Indies have a daunting task to score 306 runs more to win on the final day today over Australia in their first cricket Test match being played in Perth.
West Indies were 192 for three wickets at the close with Karigg Brathwaite unbeaten on 101 runs.

Thomians struggle
Rain and bad light forced a draw in the cricket encounter between Nalanda College and S. Thomas’ College Mount Lavinia in their Under 19 schools two-day tournament match played at Campbell Place yesterday.
When the match ended the Thomians were reeling at 51 for 5 after Nalanda declared at 285 for 4.

Pakistan hit back
Pakistan scored 499 for seven wickets at the close on the third day of their first Test match against England being played in Rawalpindi yesterday.
England batted first and scored 657 all out in their first inning with four centurions.
Pakistan’s reply also had three centurions in their first innings but are still trailing by 158 runs.
