A senior police officer said that a person who arrived at a house of Kuliyapitiya Magistrate and Additional District Judge Sampath Ariyasena at Madapatha, Piliyandala had stolen his car after detaining him in the balcony of his house.
The robber who came as a tenant had committed this robbery after an advertisement was posted on a website that the house was for rent.
Police said the robber had called the phone number posted on the website and informed that he would come to see the house. The magistrate had come alone in the car to show the house. The car was stopped in front of the house and the Magistrate opened the main door of the house and showed him around.
The Magistrate had kept the car key in the pantry of the lower floor of the house.
Later, the person went upstairs with the magistrate to see the rooms and the balcony. As the magistrate opened the door to show the upstairs balcony, the robber had closed the door and run downstairs, took the key of the car which was on the kitchen pantry and had got away in the magistrate’s car, the officer said.
