Twenty-four errant job agents on the mat

The Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) instituted legal action in January and February this year against 24 errant foreign job agents who had promised lucrative jobs for Sri Lankans in Japan, Korea and Italy and obtained millions of rupees from job seekers.

Around 53 complaints were investigated in January, this year, and the victims received Rs. 3,627,500 that was obtained from the job seekers.

Moreover, 120 complaints were investigated in February and the job seekers were compensated up to Rs. 9,010,000, Kurunegala District SLBFE Manager M.D. Somapala told the Sunday Observer.

The SLBFE has called upon job seekers not to be misled and fall victims to bogus job agents and in the future to ensure the legality of the foreign job agencies before offering money for the jobs that they apply for, he added.
