Southern Motor Sports Club which celebrated its 25th anniversary last Sunday in Matara also elected its officials for the period 2023-2024 as they conducted the annual general meeting on the same day to celebrate the anniversary and at the same time honoured who is probably the most illustrious racer in the country Dilantha Malagamuwa.

Shihan Shamsudeen was unanimously elected as the president who was one of the founder members of the SMSC. Before his appointment this year as president he held many positions in the Committee of SMSC.

Sarindu Gamage was elected as the Secretary while Malith Jayawardene will serve as the Treasurer along with Shamsudeen for the betterment of the Club.

The Committee comprises Damith Gajamange, SMP Jinapriya, Gihan Lahanduoura, Harindunath Liyange, Nusky Iqbal, Saman Bandarnayake, Ramesh Maland, Chamara Wedage, Lahiru Samarawickrama Akila Kamlendra and Prasanna Liyange.

The patrons are Y. Wickramasiri, Prof. Oscar Amarasinghe, Jayaraj Wijeweera, Dishan Goonesekera, Lalith Jayasekera and Dimuth Bambarawana.

The newly appointed president has been a sports lover since his school days playing cricket and captaining his school St. Servatius College, Matara with Sanath Jayasuriya as his deputy.

On this day the organizers also gave away the awards to winners of the 2022 Eliyakanda Hill Climb as they could not conduct the awards ceremony after the event.
