Wanindu Hasaranga de Silva has been reprimanded by the International Cricket Council (ICC) over what it said was the abuse under category of “ground equipment, fixtures or fittings” during Sri Lanka’s World Cup qualifying round match against the Netherlands in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe last week.

In this case Hasaranga was charged under the ICC Code of Conduct for “hitting the boundary skirtings with his bat in an aggressive manner” after he was dismissed for 20 against the Netherlands on his return to the pavilion.

It was the second time that Hasaranga’s disciplinary record had taken a hit which meant that he now has two demerit points.

Hasaranga’s conduct was in breach of a Level 1 nature and the minimum punishment for such an offence is a Reprimand as opposed to a 50 per cent match fee fine and two demerit points.

He needs another two demerit points to add to his current two points to be banned for a Test match or two white ball games whichever comes first within a 24-month period.

The ICC said the charges were levelled by on-field umpires Martin Saggers and Greg Brathwaite, third umpire Jayaraman Madanagopal and fourth umpire Asif Yaqoob.
