He said the balls came forth following a request he made to a New Zealand management group in the United Kingdom.

“During our on-going off-season, I volunteered as referee for the touch rugby matches managed by UK-based New Zealand rugby management group.

At my request they donated 50 new junior balls. These balls will go to Division C school junior teams in the near future. Now I have more than 80 plus balls.

“During my last visit to Sri Lanka I distributed ACME whistles to new referees in Kandy and Colombo. I posted those pictures in UK Rugby circles. After that ACME company contacted me and sent me another box of whistles for Sri Lankan referees. I’ll send those to relevant authorities soon to distribute among the refs,” said Wekadapola, a former Kingswood College and Police forward.
