The Postgraduate Centre for Business Studies (PCBS) was established at the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce (FMSC) with the objective of offering all postgraduate taught management programs previously offered by the Faculty of Graduate Studies. This Centre operates under the guidance of the Board of Study in Business Studies of the FMSC and it is led by the Director. The MBA/ M.Sc. Program, which is one of the oldest postgraduate programs of the University was approved in 1994. Academic activities were commenced in 1994 and nearly 20 batches have been graduated as of 2022.
The Master of Business Administration (MBA) and the Master of Science in Management (MSc) are two-year postgraduate degree programs offered by Postgraduate Centre for Business Studies of the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, University of Sri Jayewardenepura. Faculty of Master of Science (FMSC) is the largest faculty within the Sri Lankan University system which has a glorious history of over 60 years dedicated to research, landmark achievements, continued success and service to the entire country. It has been produced leaders in public and co-operate sectors who embedded with flexibility, creativity, and enthusiasm to face towards a dynamic environment.

Below are the excerpts of the interview:
Q: Would you specify on the aims and benefits of the Post Graduate Programs?
The aim of these postgraduate programs is to support the postgraduate students to progress their career further whilst exploring new career pathways. Students learn and acquire special knowledge, best practices in the industry whilst gaining transferable skills like teamwork, advanced research, leadership, presentation and analytical skills by following these postgraduate courses.
After the completion of postgraduate degree programs of MBA and MSc the students can acquire different benefits like new career pathways in chosen professional fields involve in further Higher Studies or expand their knowledge and capacities related to their current areas of specialization in Marketing, Finance, HRM and many more.
To deliver these benefits, these courses have outfitted with theories of management discipline and practices to prepare students for challenges in the current complex and changing environment.
Q: Would you introduce the Post Graduate Courses and their specific features to the oncoming applicants?
* The Master of Business Administration (MBA)
* The Master of Science in Management
The MBA and M.Sc. programs are meant for private and public sector managers who are looking for a holistic management curriculum of national and international status with right dose of skills development and attitudinal transformation focus.
These programs themselves have specific feature whereas some of them are on-time completion, well planned and timely updated curriculum whilst on different teaching modes such as blended learning, skills development programs like: Out Bound Training (OBT), domestic and foreign workshops to enhance knowledge of concurrent issues. The said paraphernalia is handled by the versatile andexpert panel of lecturers from both academia and industry.
The two year full-time Postgraduate Degree Programs which are equivalent to Sri Lanka Qualification Framework Level 10 (SLQF 10). The programs offer an option of Postgraduate Diploma in Management (PGDM/Sri Lanka Qualification Framework level 08) upon completion of ten (10) credit courses in the first year.
Q: What is the process of the program to earn the degree?
The participants in the MBA and M.Sc. programs have to earn 60 credits during the period of two (02) years to earn the degree. These programs begin with foundation level courses, maturing into more integrative courses in both generalized and specialized areas of study to be followed by a project, research or a thesis. First year courses are common for all participants and after completing the first year, other than the general MBA program, participants can choose one of the preferred specialized programs as mentioned below:
* Operations Management
* Human Resource Management
* Marketing Management
* Accountancy
* Finance
* Business Economics
* Information Systems
* Public Management.
Q: How beneficial is the M.Sc. Program in Management?
The M.Sc. Program in Management offers compulsory thesis with 21 credits. These courses blend theories of management and practices to enhance personal as well as professional levels of participants and prepare them for challenges in the current complex and rapid changing corporate environment. Further, the USJ MBA and MSc programs are facilitated to build networks among learning partners from different industries, different fields, various cultural backgrounds and different locations. USJ MBA/MSc alumni association is also further strengthen these networks by implementing various activities. In furtherance, we are planning to hold examinations via online for those who are expected to migrate after completing course work.
The graduation ceremony and graduation balls, CSR projects, foreign visits are a few of the most memorable events of the journey with the USJ MBA/ MSc programs.
