The inter-school knock-out rugby championship for the President’s trophy showcased a gloomy side as St. Joseph’s College cut down a pathetically insecure St. Anthony’s College team by 57 points to nothing in their quarter final match at Havelock Park yesterday.

There was absolutely nothing that the Antonians did that made them a worthy quarter finalist and the team that ended fourth in the concluded 14-team League championship as they conceded as many as nine tries and finished the first half trailing 0-33.

The Joes on the other hand had a free run and all 15 players could have had the ball to cross the line and score since the opening minutes when they put 12 points on the board by courtesy of fly-half Beeshma Jayasekera and Chamod Seneviratne who crossed the line for tries unchallenged.

Jehan Athukorale, centre Ivano White and Number Eight Naveen Marasinghe smashed down the Antonian defence for more tries as they took a 33-0 half time lead.

The Joes ran in four more tries in the second half and White capped a fine match by converting six of the nine tries to take his contribution to 17 points in the match to add to his single try.

Overall the Antonians played one of the most untidiest games ever witnessed this season and three of their players were yellow carded.
