Four districts were yesterday placed under the Division One warning for landslides and residents were called upon to remain alert with the onset of the monsoon rains.
The areas are Baddegama, Elpitiya and Nagoda in the Galle district, Bulathsinhala, Ingiriya, Mathugama and Walallawita in the Kalutara district, Ruwanwella, Yatiyanthota, Deraniyagala, Bulathkohupitiya and Dehiowita in the Kegalle district and Eheliyagoda and Kuruwita in the Ratnapura district. A senior official of the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) said that more rain was expected in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Southern provinces and the South Western part of the island. He called upon the public to take adequate precautions to minimise damage caused by temporary localised strong winds and lightning during thunder showers. - LB
