Over 500 school girls from the age groups of under 13,15,17 and 19 are participating at the 30th Milo schools netball tournament which commenced in Polonnaruwa yesterday.
This is the highest number of participants to take part in this tournament conducted by the Sri Lanka Schools Netball Association headed by its president Nirodha Abeywickrama and sponsored by Nestle.
Holy Family Convent bagged all major awards to win the overall championship last year with coach Amalka Wannitilleke who is no longer with the team that has a new coach in Theja. Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe was the chief guest at yesterday’s opening ceremony while Nestle Lanka Director Ruwan Welikala and Nirodha Abeywickrama also graced the opening day.
