Top Chinese fish exporter to invest in fisheries sector

A group of Chinese industrialists called on Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena at the Parliament on September 6 to discuss possible investments in the fisheries sector.

The Prime Minister said there is vast potential for investments in fish processing and exports not only to China but also to foreign markets including Europe and North America. Chairman of Fujian Province Aquatic Products Wholesale Industry Association Yushu Huang, who led the delegation said the members of the Association ranks Number 1 in fish production exports in China and they would like to set up a large fish processing factory at close vicinity to a coastal harbour for processing and export of fish products.

Secretary of the Association, Huang Jincheng said the Chinese investors will use most modern multi-day fishing vessels for fishing and state of art technology for fish processing. Fisheries State Minister Piyal Nishantha said he would extend required facilities to Chinese industrialists to set up a fish processing factory.

The Prime Minister requested the Fujian Province Aquatic Products Wholesale Industry Association to assist the programme undertaken by the government to develop small fishing harbours n Sri Lanka and the Chinese delegation acceded to the request. State Minister Anuradha Jayaratne, Zubu Huang of Wuxi Kaushi Foods Company, Xinxing Huang of Beijing Catering management and Dongsheng Chen of Ocean Times International Company also took part in the discussion.
