A resounding win for Ananda on day two

Sri Lanka Schools Rowing Championships continued for the second day yesterday at the Beira Lake with fourteen finals in different age groups worked off. At the end of the day in the girls events Ladies College were in front with four gold medals while Musaeus College and Bishop’s College won two and one Gold medal respectively. In the boys events St. Joseph’s College and S. Thomas’ College secured two gold medals each while Royal College and Ananda College ended the day with one each.

Ladies College won the under 14, 16, 18 and 20 age groups to win four gold medals.. Musaeus girls took golds in the under 18 and under 20 category, while Bishops College won golds in the under fourteen and Under 20 groups.

In the Boys category the biggest surprise was produced by the Anandian Oarsmen when they outclassed the much fancied Royal College and S. Thomas’ College rowers to win the under 20 fours comfortably. St. Joseph’s College Oarsmen won gold in the under 14 and 16 categories. Royal College rowers were able to win only a solitary gold medal winning the under 20 event.

The Championships will continue today from 8.00 a.m. and organizers expect to complete balance twelve finals before mid day. The Awards ceremony is expected to commence soon after the completion of the events for the day.
