Thomians and Visakha hold sway at all-island tennis show

S. Thomas’ College and Visakha Vidyalaya emerged under-19 tennis boys and girls champions respectively at the All-Island Inter-School championship held at the SLTA courts last week.

S. Thomas’ beat Ananda College narrowly 3-2 in the final while Visakha beat Ladies College also narrowly 3-2 in the two under-19 finals.

According to the organizers a high standard of tennis was witnessed throughout the meet with young players showing plenty of promise for the future.

The under-17 category also attracted much interest and St. Peter’s College were crowned as winners when they beat Ananda College by three games to one in the boys final.

The Anandians had to settle for the Plate beating St. Joseph’s College in the Under-19 Division Two final 3-2.

Newstead College Negombo had much to showcase as they ended as under-17 girls champions when they beat Visakha Vidyalaya 3-1 in the final. In the boys U-19 Division 2 Cup final St. Peter’s College beat DS Senanayake College 3/2 while in the boys U-19 Division One Plate final Stafford International School beat St. Sebastian’s College 3/2.

In the boys U-17 Division One Plate final Thurstan College beat St. Sebastian’s College 3/0 while in the girls U-17 Division One Plate final Bishop’s College beat Ladies College 3/1.
