President Ranil Wickremesinghe has appointed a high-level committee to prepare a strategic plan in six months to safeguard the country’s land and ocean. The committee’s primary mandate is to create a comprehensive strategic plan for safeguarding the country’s land and ocean territories.

Chief of Staff and Adviser on National Security, Sagala Ratnayake has emphasised the need for swift action, directing the committee to deliver its initial strategic plan within a tight six-month timeframe.

The Security Review Committee, appointed by the President with Cabinet approval, has been tasked with proposing measures to ensure the long-term security of the nation. The committee operates under the leadership of retired Maj. Gen. Channa Gunathilaka, who chairs a panel of six members. This panel includes former heads of the three Forces and advisers from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Finance and Economic Reforms. The President has entrusted this committee with the preparation of a comprehensive strategic plan beyond 2030. This plan encompasses strategic action on national security, ocean security, and the advancement of intelligence agencies.
