WIS, a Sri Lankan company that provides financial solutions in the United Kingdom, is outlining plans to expand its staff in Colombo during 2024 to keep up with growing demand for new outsourcing opportunities and an increase in UK-based companies wanting to establish their support teams in Colombo.

WIS was set up in 2009 by Wijay Kanagasundaram, Ifthikar Mohamed and Suneth Silva as an accountancy firm that primarily served clients in the UK. Having recognised that its clients had several other financial needs including mortgages, insurances and wealth management, the firm diversified into these services focusing on client convenience and retention.

This resulted in it growing to become a one-stop finance shop and thereby became the WIS Group of companies comprising WIS Accountancy, WIS Umbrella, WIS Mortgages and Insurance and WIS Wealth. WIS has several offices in the UK and an office in Sri Lanka which was established in 2013. Currently, the firm employs over 50 young, talented people supporting the day-to-day business operations both in Sri Lanka and the UK.

While a majority of its staff members are based in Sri Lanka, a handful of Sri Lankan based staff have now moved to the UK to service clients there. Building on its link to the industry, WIS has also been recognized as a quality training partner with both ACCA and CIMA in Colombo.

Director of WIS Suneth Silva said, “We started out as an accountancy firm and later branched out to different financial avenues to service a wider client base. Our business is buzzing with anticipation and excitement for the remarkable growth opportunities that lie ahead in 2024, paving the way for an expanded team in Colombo. Therefore, we are on the lookout for talented young people in the field of financial solutions to keep up with the rising demand. Increased business growth will also boost foreign exchange income to Sri Lanka and we will be able to play our part in contributing towards the recovery of the country’s economy.”

During2024, WIS plans to tap into the power of Artificial Intelligence (AI) by launching a cutting-edge, AI-driven mortgage application where users will be able to search and apply for a mortgage that suits their needs, via their mobile phones or tablets. At present, there is no such software available in the market and the company is confident that this launch will be well-accepted by the UK mortgage market. Having successfully acquired another accountancy firm in 2023, the group will continue to seek further expansion opportunities in 2024 via acquisitions with the goal of expanding its presence in the market.
