Vietnam will provide expertise on developing agriculture in Sri Lanka.

This was stated by a high-level delegation headed by the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam Le Minh Hoan at a Roundtable Discussion on Opportunity, Cooperation and Business in Agriculture between Vietnam and Sri Lanka at Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, Colombo on Wednesday.

The Minister said that the two countries have a 50-year diplomatic relationship and they would like to support Sri Lanka to strengthen ties between the two nations.

He said he is also trying to improve the agriculture sector in his country as well.

In the coming years, the Minister expects more investments from Vietnam to Sri Lanka. Vietnam is committed to taking the initiative in strengthening economic, social and cultural ties between Sri Lanka and Vietnam, he said.

The event was aimed at providing an open, informative and interactive platform, bringing together Sri Lankan and Vietnamese business communities to discuss opportunities, exchange ideas and address challenges for collaboration in a wide range of sectors including agriculture and fisheries, apparel and garments, tourism, trade, healthcare, manufacturing and logistics and to explore investment opportunities.

Vietnam Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Ho Thi Thanh Truc said that the relationship between Vietnam and Sri Lanka has been maintained for a long period. There are many opportunities for mutual cooperation, especially in the field of agriculture, forestry and fishery.

She said that Vietnam’s agriculture has made steady progress towards an environment-friendly model and has made a significant contribution towards the economy. Vietnam will provide its fullest support to develop Sri Lanka’s industries.

The Vietnam delegation also discussed ways and means of further strengthening and deepening bilateral relations.

The event was co-organised by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam.
