Sri Lanka moves closer to renewable energy goals with Project Apollo

Ceylon Energy Founder/Chairman, Madusanka Fernando, CEB Chairman N. S. Ilangakoon and Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera.

A Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for the construction of a ground-mounted solar plant with a generating capacity of 10MW – Project Apollo – will be signed between Ceylon Energy Pte Ltd and the Ceylon Electricity Board.

This agreement signals the beginning of a transformative journey of achieveing renewable energy targets.

Ceylon Energy Chairman, Madusanka Fernando, General Manager, Gratian Muththukudaarachchi, Representatives from Quigdao Hujintong Power Equipment Co. Ltd., (HJT) China, Cai Weifeng, the equity partner of the project, will also be present.

This endeavour mirrors Sri Lanka’s broader vision for a sustainable future. With a total investment nearing 8 million USD, this project underscores the nation’s commitment to renewable energy and its ambition to achieve a remarkable 70% renewable energy target by 2030.
