Trinity College and St. Anthony’s College ended their annual 105th ‘Battle of the Blues’ cricket encounter in a drab draw batting just once each at the Asigiriya Stadium yesterday.

Even with no positive result in sight, the match dragged on with the sun almost setting past 6 pm.

The Antonians batted first on the previous day and virtually slept at the crease consuming as many as 89 overs in making 249 and the Trinitians in reply were even worse in their approach and took their own sweet time as if results did not matter using up 96 overs to score 232 for 9 in what must have been the biggest run crawl.

Trinity managed to just go past the 200-run mark with their top order batsman Viduka Dhammage top scoring with 70 runs as the Antonian bowlers pathetically toiled for wickets.

This partnership helped Trinity to prolong their stay at the wicket and ensure they had no purpose. Manula Kularathna also batted with dogged determination to score 36 not out.

St. Anthony’s College: 249 in 89 overs (Thisara Ekanayake 63, Kaushika Kumarasinghe 32, Januka Ratnayake 16, Janith Rathnasiri 59, Manula Kularathna 2/68, Dinuka Tennakoon 2/43, Vithala Udara 2/37, Supun Waduge 2/14)

Trinity College: 232/9 in 96 overs (Viduka Dhammage 70, Dimantha Mahavithana 39, Supun Waduge 18, Manula Kularathna 36 n.o. Dinusha Peiris 21, Bimash Vidudaya 2/30, Kaveesha Piyumal 2/56)
